Jump over to our photo page to check out a smattering of photos from our recent tour, courtesy of our roadie, Zak Kostura.
Highlights include our sleeping quarters (Amanda’s attic),
and a shot of our trusty 12-person van.
At one show, some fans practiced the fine art of capoeira.
During the day, Emma acquired a new mandolin at the pawn shop.
There was some excellent balloon action at Cool-Aid,
and plenty of dancing.
Lastly, we made some one-of-a kind Team Genius shirts that’ll be for sale at upcoming shows. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at our special shirt-making process.
Team Genius is excited to be playing at the Cake Shop in a few weeks with some pretty popular NY/BK bands.
The show is Thursday, April 9. That’s Holy Thursday for you Catholics out there, which is excellent news since a few of us have the next day (Good Friday) off work.
We’re playing with Action Painters, Naked Hearts and Ill Ease. We go on at 10:00.
We made it back from The Team Genius Family Vacation Tour alive and played a pretty decent set at Glasslands last night with our friends Good Morning Valentine and Mattison.
Johnny Leather was there taking some excellent photos–you can view them here and here.
A tour recap, including about nine rolls of film-worth of photos, to come later. Here’s a preview:
The Team is launching our first mini-tour, playing four shows in as many days. We’ve got a twelve person van, a roadie, and two new songs.
We take off Thursday, Feb. 19, playing the M Room, a new Philadelphia venue, with Rarebirds, Adam & Dave’s Bloodline and Goodmorning Valentine. Rarebirds offer a “sneaky versatility to elevate the smoky, twinkling tunes well above standard singer/songwriter fare.” Get more info.
Our second stop is James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We’ll be playing at The Blue Nile on Friday night and at the school’s Cool Aid Festival Saturday. The tour ends back home in Brooklyn with a show at Glasslands in Williamsburg on Sunday night @ 10.
Team Genius recently shot a video with the talented Sarahana in the middle of the freezing cold street outside of our Gowanus practice space. It was for a special feature called The Secret Garden, hosted by the Brooklyn music website Hooves On The Turf. The result is an excellent 10-minute showcase of three of our songs, peppered with some trucks, fuck-ups, backward walking, and a guest appearance from the band next door.
After warming up with a few songs indoors, and drinking and talking about Icelandic beer on the day that nation’s government collapsed, the band found a cable long enough to run through the window, so we decided to film the songs on the street outside, right past a pile of trash bags, which front man Drew Hermiller thought was an apt scene for any New York musician. The trumpet, the accordion and the saxophone quickly succumbed to the low temperature and went irreversibly out of tune, but there was still a lot of clapping to do!

Friday night we’re playing a special extended set at our favorite venue, Monkeytown. If you’ve seen us play here before, you know how cool the space is. If not, check it out. We go on at 10:30

We’re still waiting on more photos of our awesome Team Genius Christmas pageant, but here are two from Meg Wachter in the meantime.
In other news, Team Genius is learning a few new songs -which will likely debut at our upcoming show at Monkeytown (next Friday!) - and getting ready for our February mini-tour. Yes.
Team Genius has an amazing holiday extravaganza in the works for our Jezebel showcase. Do not miss it as this may be your only chance to see us dressed in full Nativity gear.
We also encourage any and all audience participation, in the form of religious or secular costumes, sweaters, turtlenecks, hats, drinks or otherwise. Note: We don’t have a baby Jesus in the works, so we especially encourage costumes with that theme in mind.
If that’s not your thing, feel free to be a grinch; there will be enough fake snow to make you look as festive as everyone else.

To say Team Genius is a musical ensemble composed of multiple abnormally intelligent individuals is a bit much. But still, more than is usually the case, this is a band name that holds truths: two truths to be exact.
The first being that Team Genius possesses above average musicality and finely tuned songwriting prowess, hinting that someone quite smart is behind the creative wheel.
The second, and most important, is the way in which the members of the band/team are interconnected both musically and personally, and the clarity with which the aura of this tightly knit relationship is communicated through song. Listening to Team Genius on record is not enough. Although their recorded material is full of its own merits, this is one of few bands whose music simply begs to be experienced live.
Team Genius is a freshly baked Brooklyn-based band, only having been playing together since September 2007. Before adding the “team” to the “genius,” …
